Parish Pastoral Council Constitution




The name of this body shall be the Parish Pastoral Council of the Church of St. Mary, hereinafter referred to as the “Council.”





            Section 1

            The general purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council is to investigate, under the authority of the pastor, all those things which pertain to pastoral and temporal works of St. Mary’s Parish Family, to consider them, and to propose practical conclusions about them.


            Section 2

            The specific purposes of the Parish Pastoral Council shall be the following:


  1. To promote the spiritual and temporal good of the parish;

  2. To accept responsibility with the pastor for the life and mission of the Church in the parish;

  3. To create unity within the parish;

  4. To open a better means of dialogue between the clergy and the laity of the parish;

  5. To examine, review and coordinate the efforts of existing organizations within the parish;

  6. To utilize the talent, knowledge, experience and vision of all parishioners;

  7. To participate in the total life and mission of the Church within the Diocese of Bismarck;

  8. To visibly witness the message and service of Our Lord Jesus Christ;

  9. To elect or appoint appropriate representatives as necessary.





            Section 1

            The authority of the Council is derived from the authority of the pastor of the Church of St. Mary.


            Section 2

            The authority of the Council is consultative and collegial.


            Section 3

            The Council shall operate within the framework of the laws and teachings of the Church, Diocesan regulations and the policies of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
